Thursday, January 7, 2010Happy New Year Friends & Supporters! We hope that you and yours are staying warm during these frigid first days of the new year! As you can imagine, we at Pilsen Alliance hit the ground running in this, the first week of 2010 after getting a much-needed break during the holidays. We have much work ahead of us and hope that you are well rested and ready to join us as we continue the work of Social Justice here in Pilsen and throughout Chicago! On the education front, Pilsen Alliance, as a member of GEM (Grassroots Education Movement) and supporter of CORE (Caucus of Rank and File Educators) is co-sponsoring the Second Annual Education Summit this Saturday, January 9th at Malcolm X College from 9:30am-1:00pm. As Chicago Public Schools gets ready to announce its latest round of school closings, turnarounds and phase-outs, GEM will provide an opportunity for concerned community members, parents, youth and teachers to learn more about Renaissance 2010 and be part of the movement that is creating a true democratic response and alternative to the nearly 70 Chicago Public School closings in the last decade! The event is free and open to the public. Lunch, Spanish-language interpretation and parking is available! Stay in contact and updated on Pilsen Alliance and all our campaigns and upcoming events through our monthly e-newsletter. And know that we are always in need of volunteers and would love to hear from you. Contact us by phone (312) 243-5440 or email pilsenalliance@gmail.com. We look forward to hearing from you!
